On the basis of tread pattern:
Symmetrical tread: If a tyre has a similar tread design on both sides of the centre line of the tyre, then it said to have symmetrical tread patterns. Symmetric treads are best suited for summer tyres.
Directional tread: Tyres with V tread design have a directional tread pattern. These treads run in a uniform direction and hence are best for fulfilling the gripping requirements. Directional treads are generally used in winter tyres.
Asymmetrical tread: As the name suggests, both sides of the centre line have different tread designs. One tread is made to cater to the performance needs of summers while the other side helps with the traction requirements of winter conditions. This is the reason why asymmetrical tread patterns are used in all-season tyres.
On the basis of road conditions:
